It’s no surprise to those who visit Scotland that it repeatedly gets nominated as the best place in the UK for landscape photography. With mountains aplenty and picturesque lochs, islands, shorelines, rivers, waterfalls and woodland there really is no better place to learn about - and improve your landscape photography skills than Glencoe.

This 5-day / 6-night workshop for up to seven participants will suit those photographers who prefer more dynamic winter pictures. Winter in Glencoe is truly stunning - usually with frozen lochans, snow-capped mountains, ancient woodland and gushing waterfalls all providing a sense of scale and beauty that is truly spectacular. This is a real opportunity for people who are passionate about the outdoors to indulge and immerse themselves in an amazing week of landscape photography heaven - with tuition provided by professional photographer Mark Banks throughout the workshop. Mark Banks will also be assisted by Landscape Group Events Manager and landscape photographer, Mark Reeves who will be helping organise the event as well as giving advice to participants where required.

On evenings (or days) of particularly inclement weather,  Mark B. will be on hand to help process images taken during the workshop using Adobe Lightroom Classic Software on his laptop or your own. Participants are also encouraged to bring along prints or digital images to discuss composition, processing and advice about printing

Moderate fitness will be required and due to the terrain this workshop would be unsuitable for people with limited mobility. Although beautiful, the Scottish Highlands can be a hostile environment in winter, therefore all locations are carefully selected by Mark B. for ease of access and within walking distance of his vehicle at all times. Daily temperatures are usually always around or below freezing at this time of year, so it’s imperative participants come equipped with suitable warm outdoor and waterproof clothing, plenty of layers and wellington boots (Rannoch Moor is very wet and not suitable for walking boots)!

What is included in the price:

  • 6 nights' accommodation as well as bed, breakfast and an evening meals at the Holly Tree Hotel
  • 5 full days' tuition
  • transport to and from shoot locations during the week.

What is NOT included:

  • Midday lunches are not provided but the two Marks will transport participants to a nearby cafe for lunch each day.
  • Return travel from home to the workshop hotel
  • Travel insurance.

If you wish to travel to this event by train, the nearest rail station is at Fort William.  If you would like to be collected from the station please contact Mark Reeves (see below) BEFORE you book your train.

Participants should bring:

  • Warm, waterproof outdoor clothing with plenty of layers,
  • comfortable footwear (wellington boots are strongly recommended as terrain can be boggy),
  • umbrella
  • hats, scarfs and gloves
  • camera, battery charges, memory cards, tripod
  • graduated filters (1, 2 & 3 stop hard graduated filters) would be very useful
  • laptop for image review and editing if possible
  • mini-spikes (optional).  Although there will not be lots of walking and most locations will be close to the road, spikes or grippers such as these can be invaluable.
