A film by Ken and David Griffiths

The RPS North Wales Region, in partnership with Theatr Colwyn, The Northern Eye and Cambrian Photography, are screening a documentary movie about the makers and the making of the Gandolfi cameras.

“Gandolfi - Family Business” is a film about the last of the traditional wooden camera manufacturers who were still producing cameras in much the same way as they had 100 years earlier. Shot in the 1980s, it is an intriguing insight into an old fashioned world which persisted well into the modern age. With their workshop in London’s Peckham and an annual pilgrimage to Bournemouth, the Gandolfi brothers may seem an unlikely pair of photographic heroes, but their cameras remain sought after by collectors and are still in use by photographers to this day. A must see for anyone interested in photographic history or wanting to view a beautifully filmed documentary. Now fully digitised and remastered, this is the first cinema screening of the film for 15 years. Runtime: 97 mins.
